Traditional South Indian Recipes

I recently went to Kumbakonam. This is one of the district HQs in Tamilnadu, India. There is a famous South Indian restaurant  Mangalambiga Coffee and Tiffin Center. This has been run by a family for the past 50 years. I stayed there for about 15 days (Since we are work-from- Anywhere company we have this luxury) and used to go to this restaurant every single day for lunch. Now I would like to draw some meaningful parallels between South Indian meal Vs Manufacturing ERP

Industry ready solution

Traditional South Indian Recipes

To give an Indian context, proper ERP is like South Indian Meals, we do not order 15 dishes. Also, there is no need to ask for a new dish (The menu is fixed). At the most, we may ask for one extra serving and don’t ask for what we don’t like. Period.

Similarly, a proper manufacturing ERP must have all the complex use cases that the manufacturing company needs. Customisation for the critical requirements means the ERP system is not industry-ready. In every project of ERP implementation, in the starting phase, the majority of the time on an ERP project is spent on system study, gap analysis and the consultants end up preparing the 300 to 500 pages of documents. This consumes enormous time and except for the guy who prepares the document no one will even see these documents.

Syscon Cronus – manufacturing ERP has all the industry use cases ready. Invariably during the demo and free trial, all our prospects will say that our solution meets their requirements to the extent of 95-98%. This would help the implementation and go live easier. This the topmost reason for the success of the ERP system.

Rapid Implementation

This restaurant has a capacity of 40 people. The restaurant was always full at Lunchtime. The best part was the waiters were so trained that they looked at the leaf and served the items in less than 6 to 8 seconds. I use to finish my meals well within 15 to 20 minutes and got out.

Look at the international benchmark it says “ Implementing an ERP system takes about 14.1 months on average”

Now you should ask a serious question? Can you wait for that long?

ERP has been around here for the past 30 years. But still, we do system study, gap analysis, and 10s and 100s pages of documents. There has to be a simple way.

Syscon provides 14 days of a free trial. During this trial period, the Syscon team will actually demonstrate, with the client’s sample data, all the business use-cases required by the Users and Management team along with the reports and documents. With the manufacturing industry’s maturity for over 2 decades, industries find the system meeting their requirements above 95%. This is a very important step to validate the suitability of the system.

The full ERP implementation has to be finished within 3 to 4 weeks of time. This put the responsibility on all stakeholders which includes the ERP company, Implementation team, Client end-users & Management team. Anything delay beyond this will lead to the users and management team losing interest in the project slowly. Syscon has crisp training materials and master data and opening balance migration tools to accelerate the training and implementation. we have done this to many of our clients.

Cost of ERP

At the Mangalambika restaurant, the cost of full lunch is Rs.80/- and a simple breakfast and dinner may cost Rs. 80/- Mini Coffee Rs. 12/-. With just Rs. 5300/- you can eat for a full month.

Similarly, the total cost of ERP should also be affordable. Many of the ERP software and the AMC, upgrades, implementation, and post-implementation support cost is so high that in the entire life of the manufacturing ERP will not see the ROI at all. Due to the cost overrun, many industries only use a limited portion of ERP and many other processes in XL sheets and word documents. This will make the data collection and MIS a big challenge.

Look at the international benchmark. 55- 75% of the ERPs do not meet their ROIs or go over budget and fail due to this.

According to a 2019 ERP Project Report, the average budget per user is $7,200. (which is Rs. 5,04,000/ User).

One more article says ” ERP cost ranges from $75,000 to more than $10 million” (in INR it is Rs. 52 Lacs to Rs. 74 Crores)

Now You should ask the serious question, can you afford it?

Please do not miss to visit our pricing page. Syscon Cronus ERP system is so affordable that the Industry can see the ROI from ERP well within 6 – 9 months of implementation.

Passion, Quality, and Long-term Support

During my 15 days of the visit, I became a little close to the owners of Mangalambiga restaurant. I used to see some of the people coming at the same time. But when I asked him, to my utter surprise the owner said that we have people eating in the restaurant 3 times a day for the past 25 years. The owner’s family also eats the same food. One day I saw the owner’s grandkid who was 4 years old was eating Idly in the hotel.

The ERP solution’s support and long-term support are very important. The product has to have regular enhancements and all statutory requirements are met from time to time.

Considering the cost, efficiency, and better response, at Syscon we provide 100% of support online. Hence there is no geo barrier.

At Syscon we have been supporting all our existing customers for the past 2 decades with all enhancements and statutory upgrades. Syscon team works with passion and commitment to stand with the industry for the past 25 years (since 1996)

Conclusion

There are many restaurants in Kumbakonam. But when I saw deeply, nothing came even close to the standards of Mangalambiga Coffee and Tiffin Center.

In the same way, there can be many manufacturing ERPs out in the market. It is the responsibility of the Owners and promoters to search and identify the right solution that can meet their needs and purse.  ERP system that is Affordable, Ready-use with Rapid implementation, and successfully rolled out will give ROI from ERP.

It is very important for the Manufacturing Industries to get a “Digital Assessment and Preparedness” report to know Where they are, What they want, How much they can spend, Team, Who will steer the project etc., This report will help them to search for the suitable ERP systems.

Superbly written Sir. I liked the analogy of comparing ERP to South Indian Meal which is perfect. You are absolutely right. The whole package must be such that one should compensate for the deficiencies in the other without reducing the value and utility of whole package-All this at an affordable cost. Fantastic Sir. May God bless you.

  • The South Indian meal on the leaf is very inviting. It demonstrates the complexity of recipes on the leaf at the end it provides great customer experience. I link diverse dishes on the leaf to various business functions in the company. To be like Mangalam in Kumbakonam is great dream I wish you all the best

      Dear Karthikeyan,

Thank you so much for your very apt comparison of my article. Since you are also serving the manufacturing industries, they are still struggling to get their basic transaction data in one place. The managements have to focus on their teams, cultural and personal preferences, Investment capabilities, etc., I will be very happy to connect with you to explore the synergies.

      Regards,
      Vijay Venkatesh
