ERP 1: “We offer an ERP that exactly does what you need.”

This is like buying a fully built and thoroughly tested car, backed by company-certified service centers and genuine spares.  You can start using it from Day 1.

ERP 2: “We offer a generic ERP platform where you can build what you want.”

This is like buying an engine, 4 tyres, and a chassis… and then taking it to a local workshop to build the car the way you want.

It may eventually become what you imagined — but it usually takes 8 to 10 months before you can actually use it properly. Also all the future upgrade, maintenance and repair is your responsibility.

Both models are valid. In fact, nearly 95% of the ERP and CRM products in the market fall into the second category.

But before choosing one, honestly assess:

  • Your internal capability
  • Your implementation maturity
  • Your budget
  • Your patience for customization and delays
  • Time and effors

Choose what suits you.

But the cost of the wrong choice will be irreparable.
